Montevideo: We decided to take a side trip from Buenos Aires into Uruguay cos Lonely Planet reckoned it was worth it and that Uruguay is cheap! We took the fast boat from BA to Colonia and then a lightning quick bus connection on to Montevideo. After walking the streets for a while we ended up in a nice hotel bang in the centre. Montevideo does not have a lot going for it to be honest - demonstrated by the fact that we ended up drinking coffee in MacDonald´s to dodge the rain. We managed to find an Irish Pub in the evening but that was pretty dead too!
Colonia: The next morning we took the bus back to Colonia where things started to improve. We stayed in a really nice guest house called Don Antonio´s. Colonia is a beautiful little town across the Rio Plata from Buenos Aires. We bumped into a couple from England on a motorbike. They had ridden from New York all the way to BA and were now on their way home. It was good to see some fellow gringos and chat about our travels over a coffee.
